**I received an e-ARC of this book from Netgalley to facilitate my reviewIf you hate cliffhanger endings, then stop reading right here... because Ruined by Tracy Wolff had me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter - and then ended the book with more questions than answers and didn't even answer the question - "When will we get more Ethan?"
I know that it is becoming more commonplace to serialize books again - putting out mulitple parts of a continuing story that finally culminates at some future point and that's all well and good, I suppose, but to be honest, I like to read a book that begins and ends so that I can move on without having to dredge up the memories of books past to put things into context. That being said, for being the first part of a serial - Ruined has me caught - hook, line and sinker - waiting with bated breath for the next installment of Ethan and Chloe!
In Ruined, we learn a lot about Chloe's character and only snippets and conjecture about Ethan's, leaving me wanting more and more! This book is sexy, smart and fast-paced and should appeal to readers who don't mind a little steam with their romance and will certainly help one develop patience once you reach the end of the story...
Ruined is currently available only as an e-book.
***UPDATE*** I just found out that the second part of the series is called Addicted and is due out in June! Now that I know though, it makes the anticipation even stronger - watch for my forthcoming interview with Tracy Wolff - hopefully she'll leak a few key details for us!

Ruined is being heavily marketed in the same bucket as Fifty Shades and Bared to You but I am not seeing the connection other than a super rich young billionaire and a tortured past. (But geez how many romances include that formula?)
I love a first person point of view story but if you read Ruined, you are going to spend a lot of time in Chloe's head. The entire book was pretty much her thoughts, her feelings and what secrets she is debating on sharing. I wasn't sure before what the difference was with "New Adult" books but now I understand. The maturity level is definitely evident. Chloe is young. She spends a lot of time worrying about what people with think. She has trust issues and when she finally reveals her past it is only in bits and leaves out major gaps. She also jumps to conclusions quickly. Basically I found a lack of maturity with Chloe; however it was actually quite realistic for her age.
Chloe had a horrible event occur while she was a teenager and not enough time has happened between that horrific event and her current age. With only 5 years separating that dramatic event to the present day, I could really see how she still had a lot of healing to overcome. It sure seemed pretty obvious that Chloe should still be seeking counselling of some sort.
Ethan of course is perfect. Body perfect. Rich perfect. Grounded. Smart. A surfer. A philanthropist. Knows exactly what to say and when to say it. Sexy. Hot. Knows the perfect romantic gifts to send and to top it all off, he knows how to build a sand castle. My eyes were rolling with how unrealistic Ethan was. In fact, his perfection was almost nauseating. I think that is one struggle I have with these billionaire stories. Ethan is so perfect in everything he does and to top it off, he seems to know how to handle an emotional train wreck of woman.
Truthfully, I was not really enjoying Ruined but not enough to stop reading. Everything was so cliched and there wasn't any originality. Until the end. Until that cliff hanger. And now dammit, I have to wait until July to read what happens. I hate cliffhangers.
I was really excited to read Tracy Wolff’s RUINED because a few friends really enjoyed it. In the end, it fell a bit flat.
Character development is a bit weak. Ethan went from being this beach bum type of guy to suddenly suit wearing CEO. For the most part, he remains mysterious and even when he tells Chloe a bit of his past we still don’t know exactly who Ethan Frost is. The whole beach bum vs CEO felt a bit off. Out of all the characters we get to know Chloe fairly well. It makes sense since she also narrates it. As a narrator I think she’s trustworthy. It’s clear something traumatic happened to her and she doesn’t tell us exactly what it is nor does she give us hints along the way. In fact, we don’t know even what it is until towards the very end. It was also a bit difficult to like her since she was so wishy washy. One moment she was lusting after Ethan and the next minute she had a resolve to let him go. A few secondary characters make an appearance and play minor role. I wish Wolff had focused a bit more on these secondary characters other than a quick mention and it would have brought more substance to the plot.
I debated with the rating between a two and three and in the end decided on a two for one particular reason. I liked the writing up until a certain point and I don’t want to give a spoiler so I’ll tip toe around the issue as best I can. Chloe tells Ethan about an incident in her past and it’s heartbreaking and something no woman should experience. Fast forward to the “it’s not you, it’s me” type of scene where the hero always pushes the heroine away then they make up shortly after this argument. It’s what occurred leading up to their makeup that didn’t sit well with me especially when you take into context Chloe’s past. Chloe makes her stand and Ethan still pushes to the point where Chloe is afraid the past is about to be repeated. Then all is okay despite her concerns. This did not sit well with me and I think Wolff could have addressed this particular scene a little better. Furthermore, Ethan was involved in an altercation with his half-brother and I suspected I knew who he was and my suspicions were confirmed which has me wondering how clichéd will book two be?
Tracey Wolff’s RUINED ends on a cliffhanger and it was an okay read. I would have liked a little more character development and respect among the characters. Despite a few hiccups, I’ll still read the second book to see how it ends.
